SHMC(Super hydrophobic coating):
1) What is the SHMC?
By treating a lens with a Hydrophobic coating we are filling the spaces between the crystals of which the coating layer consists. There are hundreds of thousands of these crystals that are deposited on the lens surface during the coating process. There are spaces between these crystals or rods into which dirt and grease penetrates during normal use of the lens. The OMS Hydrophobic coating will fill these gaps and create a smooth surface without changing the properties of the A-R coating. Dirt stays on top of the surface and can not go in between the above mentioned gaps. Therefore the lens becomes easily cleanable and less smudgy.
2) Why do you need SHMC?
Hydrophobic lenses are self cleaning glasses. Through the action of water, the former by rolling droplet and the latter by sheeting water that carries away the dirt. Most of the Surfing sunglasses are made of Hydrophobic lenses .
This word is derived from the word Hydro that is Hydro for Water and Phobic for Fear of water.
They are Anti-static, dust and dirtying particles are not attracted to them and even if they do, they collide and fall right off. They are easier to clean than the other normal glasses.
3) What makes Hydrophobic lenses special?
SUPER HYDROPHOBIC will keep lenses cleaner longer because of the added benefit of anti-fog and anti-static additives. A lens pulled through steam in a regular ant-fog test will dissipate fogging up within 8 seconds while a untreated A-R coated lens will take up to 52 seconds to clear up.

Coating
Anti-reflective coating is a microscopically thin multi-layer coating that eliminates reflections from the front and back surface of eyeglass lenses. No glasses have anti scratch but lenses that are treated front and back with a clear, scratch-resistant coating have a much harder surface that is more resistant to scratching, whether from dropping your glasses on the floor or occasionally cleaning them with a paper towel.
